WHAT SILENCE TAUGHT ME ABOUT LIFE. Chapter 2: The Old Man Who Never Spoke. Every morning, I returned to the park. The old man was always there. Feeding birds. Watching the sunrise. Smiling. Yet he never spoke a single word. We communicated by writing in the notebook. One day I asked, "Why don't you talk?" He smiled and wrote: "I haven't spoken for twenty-two years." I stared in disbelief. "Why?" His hands trembled before writing another sentence. "Because the last words I spoke destroyed my family." He never explained further. Instead, he began teaching me. He taught me to notice things I had ignored all my life.....
