Most days it held nothing more than bills, advertisements, or empty silence. But today was different. At the bottom of the mailbox lay a faded cream-colored envelope. Its edges were worn, the paper yellow with age, and the stamp had nearly disappeared. Across the front, in beautiful handwriting, were the words: "To Daniel Carter." There was no return address. Daniel frowned. He had lived in this house for only six years. How had such an old letter reached him now? Curious, he carried it inside. His hands trembled as he carefully opened the brittle envelope. Inside was a single handwritten letter. The date at the top stopped him cold. June 12... Twenty Years Ago.
