I lay beside Adaeze, staring at the ceiling while the old standing fan turned slowly above us. My mind was somewhere thousands of kilometres away. England. The United Kingdom. A place I had only seen in photographs. A place people in my village spoke about as though it were another world. I turned toward my wife. She was asleep. Or at least I thought she was. "Adaeze."
